The mentorship opportunity is another facet of the program we run, catering to students’ needs. Our mentors are trained in cross-cultural communication and are carefully selected to provide the best guidance and experience to our participants. We make sure their goals align with ours: to inspire, encourage and share. Mentors will work closely with students to work on a STEM project that will give back to the community.
It is a wonderful opportunity if you are interested in mentoring and connecting with students, and sharing your thoughts and experiences. If you would like to join our team of mentors, please email youthleadinginSTEM@anu.edu.au and address it to our volunteer coordinators.
For those interested in participating as a mentor, please refer to the information below.
It is a low-intensity high impact project. You will be expected to help and guide students foster their love for STEM subjects through the implementation of a science project that will have a positive impact on their school or community.
The program aims to:
- Educate and motivate students from a NSW regional and disadvantaged ACT secondary school background (dependent on funding) with viable leadership and STEM skills applicable to their student activities.
- Motivate students to pursue STEM at tertiary level, and provide them with guidance to that effect.
- Guide students through the application of the skills learnt in implementing a STEM-related initiative in their own communities and/or schools, through a follow-up mentorship program.
